Here we are in Lampasas, 7,867 on US Highway 281. Located in central Texas and the county seat of Lampasas County. Colorado Bend State Park, a 5328.3-acre facility, is located west of Lampasas in San Saba and Lampasas counties. The park currently offers the outdoor enthusiast access to primitive camping, hiking, fishing, which at certain times is terrific, swimming, mountain biking, birding, and nature watching, and guided tours. The park has 15.8 miles of hiking trails and 14 miles of mountain bike trails. When Lake Buchanan is near normal levels, the river is navigable from the park's boat ramp all the way to the lake, approximately 10 miles. This is a trip on slow moving water through these beautiful canyon lands towards Lake Buchanan.

Inks Lake State Park is 1201 acres of recreational facilities adjacent to Inks Lake on the Colorado River in Burnet County. Visitors enjoy camping, backpacking, hiking, and golf. Since Inks is a constant level lake, droughts do not affect water-related activities. Inks Lake State Park:
Marble Falls, 7,291. Founded in 1887 by General Adam R. Johnson, incorporated on May 18, 1907. Before the dam was built to form Lake Marble Falls on the Colorado River, there were falls of marble giving the name Marble Falls to the city. The falls are now under water and only visible on those rare occasions when the LCRA lowers the lake for repairs. 25 miles south on US Highway 281 is Johnson City.

Pedernales Falls, 9 miles east of Johnson City on FM 2766. A 4,860 acre park stretches along both banks of the Pedernales River. The Pedernales River running through the park can flash flood with little or no warning. The water in the river can rise from a placid stream to a raging torrent in a few minutes. Blanco, 1,593. Located 45 miles north of San Antonio on US Hwy 281. The Blanco River runs thru this little community. Built on the banks of the Blanco River (named for the white limestone riverbed visible in times of drought). Devil's Backbone is located nearby. a scenic drive I've made many times.
Blanco State Park is 104.6 acres, along the Blanco River, in Blanco County. Activities include camping; swimming; picnicking; hiking; nature study; boating (electric motors only); and fishing. Tube, canoe and kayak rentals are available at the park. Blanco State Park:

The Guadalupe River is where you will find a variety of activities as well as a relaxing environment. Whether you’re looking for camping, tubing, dining, or shopping, you can find it all here.
Guadalupe River State Park is located along the boundary of Comal and Kendall Counties. The park has 4 miles of river frontage and is located in the middle of a 9-mile stretch of the Guadalupe River. Visitors may enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including canoeing, fishing, swimming, tubing, picnicking, hiking, and camping. The park recently opened a 5.3 miles equestrian trail that is also open to mountain biking. No equestrian camping is available at the park. Opportunities also exist for less vigorous but more serene pursuits, such as bird watching and nature study. Guadalupe River State Park:
Wow. There is so many things on this strip of 281 Texas. For the whole family lots to see and do. Lakes, rivers, parks, wine, food, shopping and beautiful country with friendly people. I didn't even mention all the golf courses along this route of US 281, that will be another log.
