The second oldest museum in Oklahoma, "The Museum of Natural History" is on campus. Around town there are Murals to see. Shopping, Dining and the parks.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Founded inn 1895 only two years after the opening of the Cherokee Outlet, the first bill to establish a normal school at Alva was introduced in the territorial legislature. This first effort was defeated, the next legislature passed the bill establishing the Northwestern Territorial Normal School at Alva, the second such school in Oklahoma Territory, (1895).
At the Alva campus (+/- 2,000), students can choose from more than 40 areas of study to earn their Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees and offers complete master's degree programs in education and counseling psychology.

You may have wondered what else is there to see and do while we are in Northwest Oklahoma. Let's have a look around.
The Great Salt Plain, is just 17 miles east of Alva outside of Cherokee and is the only place in the world to find hourglass selenite crystals.
Alabaster Caverns State Park, 20 miles west and 5 miles south of Alva, is the home of "Nature's Underground Wonderland." This 200 acre park offers the gorgeous and mysterious Alabaster Caverns, the world's largest commercially-operated gypsum cave.
Little Sahara State Park, located 28 miles southwest of Alva outside of Waynoka, on US Highway 281 is where thousands of visitors come to "ride the dunes." These dunes are part of a 1,800 acre park that buzzes year round with off-road vehicles.
