Anadarko's location on 281 is within close proximity to a number of outdoor recreational opportunities in addition to the towns activities and cultural offerings. The Anadarko Downtown Historic District is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. South on OK 8 is Indian City USA, an authentic restoration of American Indian dwellings, a fun place to visit with camp grounds.
Outdoor recreational fun O'plenty around this area of Hwy 281. Northeast of town is Lake Chickasha, Northwest is Fort Cobb State Park, Sugar Cr eek Site Dam is about 3 miles out of town. Red Rock Canyon State Park, up at Hinton on 281.
North, up 281 from Anadarko on our all American Highway towards Hinton is Red Rock Canyon State Park. From: I-40 Exit 101, 5 miles South on Hwy 281. Red Rock Canyon was once a stop on the famous California Road Trail. The canyon walls are a favorite for rappelling and open exploration. 310 Park Acres, RV Sites to tent camping, hiking trails, play ground and fish pond.
Northwest of Anadarko is Fort Cobb State Park, 1,872 park acres, 4,100 Lake Acres. Take your tent or RV and enjoy a quiet, relaxed family atmosphere. The park also offers an 18-hole golf course with practice range. fishing, water sports, (personal water craft rentals), hunting and swimming, visitor's center on site and cabins. You will need to book a cabin long in advance.
Northeast of Anadarko is Lake Chickasha, which is operated and maintained by the Chickasha Public Works Division. Overnight camping (no water or electricity) $5.00 per day. 50 RV hookups (with water and electricity hookups) $10.00 per day. Fishing (City permit required), Hunting (City permit required). Both may be purchased at the lake.
