Watonga, Oklahoma with close to 6,000 residents is the county seat of Blaine County. At the intersection of State Highway 33 and U.S. Highway 281. The town was named for Arapaho Chief "Wa-ton-gha". A post office was established in 1892, in 1906 a courthouse was built, one of several that pre-date statehood. The Blaine County Courthouse is in the National Register of Historic Places. One of the most notable citizens of Watonga was Clarence Nash, who Walt Disney hired to be the voice of Donald Duck in the 1920s. Mr. Nash provided the voice of Donald Duck exclusively for over 50 years in over 120 shorts and films. A street in this town is named in his honor. Watonga Chamber Website:

South bound we go on Hwy 281 to Greenfield and Geary. Greenfield,a farming town named for William Henry Greenfield, appointed the first postmaster on January 30, 1900. Now with just a Baptist Church and one business, this small community still owns a rich history. About five miles east of Greenfield is the grave of the "Jesse Chisholm", (Chisholm Trail) a guide, scout, interpreter and trader. In 1932 the Oklahoma history class of Greenfield went to his burial place and erected a monument.
Geary, Oklahoma, is centrally located to both coasts. This town was on the original Route 66. Geary is 43 miles west of Oklahoma City on Interstate 40 and 7 miles north. Within a 25 mile radius, are rolling forested hills, two rivers, two lakes, two state parks, two cities with supermarkets and specialty stores. There are many golf courses within an hour's drive.
Into Hinton on US Highway 281, with around 2,000 folks which is five miles south of I - 40 on US Highway 281. Providing access to the Oklahoma Northwest while enabling Hinton to be the Gateway to Southwestern Oklahoma and Caddo County. Replacing the Historic Mother Road of Route 66, Interstate 40 is now the major east-west artery. The town was founded in 1902 by the Hinton Townsite Company. Incorporated in 1906, the residents have thrived in an economy derived from the surrounding agricultural community.
On Highway 281 we cross the historic Route 66, / I - 40. (see map) I found out there was a/the original Route 66 before 1933 and the "Current" Historic 66 thru El Reno east of Hwy. 281. The original US 66 route went through one of our Highway 281 cities Geary on to Bridgeport. The newer section of Route 66 cutoff / bypassed the Original Route 66 towns of Calumet, Geary, and Bridgeport in 1933 to El Reno.
Hinton is also home to Sugar Creek Country Club and Golf Course. The course is a championship caliber 18 hole course. It is host to the State golf championship. The finest course in Caddo County, the front nine offers wide open holes with breathtaking views of the High Plains Country of Western Oklahoma. The back nine introduces you to the Canyon, with steep slopes and rolling hills making you appreciate the development of this course on a canyon hillside. Sugar Creek Golf Website:
