
Celebrate the road less traveled, (Highway 281) small towns in rural USA appreciate the economic boost we travelers bring to their area. More often than not you will be doing business with the owner rather than a corporation. It could be Mom, Pop or one of the kids working the store. Have you noticed that people in small towns seem friendlier. You don't have to travel far, or break the bank to have an awesome adventure!

We urge you, the family, friends and neighbors to get up and go explore rural America, the people, the places, the history and the many different cultural activities and recreational opportunities this great land has to offer. Anyone that appreciates Americana and the foundations of free enterprise should consider spending their tourist dollars where it benefits other Americans.

Anadarko, Oklahoma on Highway 281 in Caddo County. Southwest of Oklahoma City, North of Lawton. With a population of around 6,500.
"Indian Capital of the Nation," according to the local Chamber of Commerce. Home to the annual American Indian Exposition, the National Hall of Fame for Famous American Indians. Anadarko on US Highway 281 is unique among Oklahoma cities as Native Americans form a near-majority of the community population. The town acquired its name when the post office was established in 1873. The towns name came from the Nadarko (Nadaco) Indians, a branch of the Caddo peoples, with the "A" added by a clerical error.

We are having a tour around this Oklahoma Plains Town. Informative links will be provided for you through out the post. Enjoy your visit. Along with Alva's picturesque downtown square there are two city parks. Home to Northwestern Oklahoma State University. "Ride with Pride". The second oldest museum in Oklahoma, "The Museum of Natural History" is on campus. Around town there are Murals to see. Shopping, Dining and the parks.
